En direct de Rennes avec notre correspondante Anessa D.,
Today, the exchange students and their correspondents went to Rennes and learned about the historical aspects of the beautiful city. It is located at the intersection of two rivers (the Ille and the Vilaine), and in the Middle Ages, was enclosed by a fortified wall with eleven gates. On our tour, we visited the last remaining gate. In addition, we saw St. Peter's Cathedral and the palace in which the city leaders stayed in the 17th century. We also viewed the City Hall square and some of the oldest medieval houses in the town. However, the most interesting of all the places we saw was the "Parlement de Bretagne", (the Law Courts), which was partially destroyed by a fire in the 1990s. It was restored over a span of seventeen years with the repairs costing over sixty million dollars. we were lucky to see several chambers, including the Appellate Court, while they were taking a break during a major trial.
